Jeffco Crew #037 - Alpacas, Trolls & Farmers Market Finales

Jeffco Crew #037 - Alpacas, Trolls & Farmers Market Finales
Cool nights, super nice.

Well, certainly had some Fall weather rollin' through lately!

So I suppose it's no surprise that we're booking apple and pumpkin farm visits, and a few farmers markets are hosting their last hurrah this weekend.

On that, the Aspen Grove and Main Street markets in Littleton along with the Arvada market are wrapping up their season this weekend, with the others holding on for another week. I actually missed that Evergreen's market wrapped up yesterday.

Fun news, the Golden Farmers Market is adding a weekday event next year!

🎃 Fall Farms?

Speaking of apples and pumpkins... what are your favorite fall farm destinations? Hoping for some nice alternatives to Anderson Farms, which we love but gets crowded and we've done it a lot, so you know.

Reply with ideas!

I'll share any fun finds with credit next week - thanks in advance!

Okay, let's get into it.

🎧 We Listen

Where I choose a few songs for you to enjoy - and request your suggestions!

This week kicks off with Nation of Language's Silhouette, which is just downright pleasant.

Is it time to let go?

For this next one I'm keeping it super soft and mellow with a track from a few years back that's been crawling around in my head lately. This is from retro genius Michael Collins aka Drugdealer with chewy vocals from Kate Bollinger.

Vibes all day.

That whole album, Hiding in Plain Sight, is a trip down nostalgia lane if you're in need of that kind of thing.

🎨 Arvada's Fourth Friday Pride Edition 🏳️‍🌈

Olde Town Arvada's monthly Creative Crawl gets a special Pride twist this month, with local businesses donating portions of sales to support Denver's bid for the 2030 Gay Games. The highlight is Dear Marsha's live performance from 6 - 8pm in Olde Town Square, featuring acoustic-powered rock, country, and Americana.

Multiple businesses are offering themed specials - from rainbow cocktails at The Arvada Tavern to spooky Halloween sales at Electric Cherry. It's a nice blend of community support and the usual Fourth Friday art walk vibe, with live music providing the soundtrack as you explore the shops and galleries along Grandview Avenue. The fundraising aspect gives the regular monthly event some extra purpose while maintaining the relaxed, strollable atmosphere that makes Fourth Fridays popular.

🗓️ Friday, September 26, 5pm - 10pm

🎨 Evergreen Elk & Art Fest

You know I love my art shows. Running Saturday and Sunday, September 27 - 28, this juried fine art show brings 75 open-air galleries to the Evergreen North Shopping Complex. The focus leans toward mountain-living, Western, and Southwestern art, making it a good fit for the setting.

You'll find everything from reverse-painted acrylics and custom leather goods to stained glass pet portraits and wood pieces inlaid with turquoise. Live music both days includes everything from Native American flute to acoustic rock covers. The $1,000 shopping spree drawing at noon on Sunday adds some excitement - just grab a free ticket from any artist and drop it in the tub before the drawing. Free admission, dog-friendly, and plenty of parking make it an easy weekend outing to see what Colorado artists are creating.

🧠 Things to know

The 15-foot wooden troll named Isak Heartstone in Breckenridge became so popular it nearly tore the town apart. The sculpture was masterfully constructed out of pallets and recycled wood and rapidly gained a social media following, attracting thousands of visitors to an otherwise quiet corner of Breckenridge. After months of debate and impassioned online battles, the town decided to remove the troll due to traffic complaints from residents. The shuttle ridership on the route to the troll jumped from 7,500 to 16,500 riders in a single month. But trolls are resilient - after it was dismantled, artist Thomas Dambo reimagined the troll, using the original head, heart, hands, and feet but rebuilt the body in a new location in 2019. Now Isak sits peacefully behind the ice rink, still drawing crowds but in a spot better equipped to handle his popularity.
