Jeffco Crew #038 - Cider, Stein Lifting & Pumpkins

I've already been to the pumpkin farm (for the first time this season, not the last) and I'm frankly considering throwing up the outdoor holiday lights.
But I'll wait on those, first comes some spooky lawn ornaments.
I hope you're enjoying the transition to holiday season as much as we are, although this week is feeling a bit summer-y weather-wise.
A bit brief today as my day fell apart and got a little cramped!
Let's get into it.

š Cider Days in Lakewood
Running Saturday and Sunday, from 10am-4pm at Heritage Lakewood, this annual fall festival celebrates the area's agricultural roots with a surprisingly deep lineup of activities. The event includes tractor pulls, vintage power displays, historic demonstrations in period buildings (blacksmithing, butter making, vintage sewing), and of course, apple pressing - bring your own apples and empty jug to take home fresh cider.
All amusements are included with admission: train rides, a macintosh maze, pie eating contests, face painting, line dancing lessons, and the popular trick pig show (Top Hogs performs three times daily). Live music spans from Native American flute to mariachi to bluegrass across multiple stages. Timed entry tickets help manage crowds, and free shuttles run from several parking lots. Skip parking entirely and bike in for a dollar off your first cider. It's one of those family-friendly community events that manages to feel substantive rather than surface-level, thanks to the working historic demonstrations and genuine agricultural activities.
šļø Hoodlums Colorado Car Show Fundraiser
Reader Vicki reached out to me asking if I'd share this fundraiser to support her son, Ricky, who was in a major car accident and will miss 12 weeks of work with a broken lower back. Head over to TJ's in Lakewood on Sunday from 12-3pm for hot car rides, a silent auction and raffles to support the family! No website - just show up ya'll.
š Autumn Fest in Golden
Golden History Park hosts its fifth annual free fall celebration on Sunday, October 5, with a mix of hands-on activities that give kids something to actually do rather than just look at. The lineup includes a 4-H petting zoo with farm animals, big trucks for climbing on (courtesy of Golden Streets Department), crafts, face painting, and wildlife education. Native American dancers and drummers perform throughout the day, and costumed Civil War interpreters bring history to life on the grounds. Live music from Alibi provides the soundtrack while food trucks Power Cone and Woody's Woodfired Pizza handle the eating. It's the kind of low-key community event that doesn't try too hard - just good activities, interesting partners like Jefferson County Beekeepers and the Mines Museum, and a chance to explore the historic park without crowds or admission fees.

Jolly Rancher Candies started in Golden in 1949 when Dorothy and Bill Harmsen opened their first ice cream store under the "Howdy Folks" arch on Washington Avenue. After a rough first summer plagued by rainy weather and equipment problems, they added chocolates to survive the winter, and their five-cent hot cinnamon taffy stick (Fire Stix) became so popular it launched their candy empire.
