- Where do you recycle your π²Christmas tree?
- Some things you can do this week
- Some things that are free, for your kiddos
Dry January, at breweries
It's become very popular to use January as a reset no-alcohol month - I have a bunch of friends going dry for 31 days (or for 30, or 29...). But this is the land of breweries, right?
It is, but they've adapted, and I'm noticing nearly all of them on Instagram touting their N/A options.
One that caught my eye: New Terrain shares that they've got a month-long rewards system any spending above $6 each day - receive a Wooden Nickel that gets you a free drink in July. So trade a healthy January for some summer fun?
Beer counts towards wooden nickels, but so does kombucha, nitro coffee and their N/A beers. π
Find real π¦ dinos
The Morrison Natural History Museum has announced intense excavation experiences this summer called The Triceratops Gulch Project (TGP).
This is a very cool opportunity to collect specimens that have lain dormant for over 66 million years, but they literally add a warning that you will "suffer for your science", so it's not for the feint-hearted.
Recycle your π² Christmas trees
For those of you with natural trees on their last legs, deadlines for these recycling options are fast approaching.
Arvada: Until January 20, there's free Christmas tree recycling for Arvada residents at Stenger Sports Complex.
Evergreen: On Saturday, free tree recycling from LAM Tree Service at two locations: Evergreen Lutheran Church on 5980 Hwy 73 or to the vacant lot across from King Soopers in Bergen Park (1246 Bergen Parkway).
Golden: Drop off your trees December 26 through January 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 230 Depot St. near the intersection of 10th & Vasquez.
Lakewood: The Lakewood program ended last Sunday - anyone got other groups or locations still accepting trees?

π Stuff for kiddos to kick off 2025
Parents, send in your tips, tricks and secrets for keeping the kiddos active, engaged and sane this winter. Below are some freebie tips to kick off the new year.
- Stop by Lookout Mountain Preserve and Nature Center - beautiful in the winter (tip: their Winter Jr Rangers event in February is open for registration).
- LEGO has a free printed magazine that shows up 5x a year for 5-9yr olds.
- Dolly Parton's Imagination Library ships children under 5 a book every month - available in 60% of Jeffco at this point.
- Colorado Mills - hear me out - is actually a great indoor activity hack for younger kids, with lots of free obstacles and a small playground to climb on.
- Elitch Gardens has brought back their free Pre-K membership for 3-5 year olds, which you need to grab and activate before late June.
